The New Jersey Choral Society is proud to announce our collaboration with New York’s Teatro Grattacielo for a concert production of Vittorio Gnecchi’s tragic opera, Cassandra, held on October 8, 2016. New Jersey Choral Society singers performed as the opera chorus and the NJCS Festival Youth Chorus sang the part of the “bambinos”.
Teatro Grattacielo, founded in 1994 by current Artistic Director, Duane Printz, produces performances of works in the Italian operatic repertoire that are rarely heard in the United States. The October 8, 2016 performance of Gnecchi’s Cassandra was conducted by Maestro Israel Gursky, who has led four previous Teatro Grattacielo productions. Premiered in 1905, Cassandra tells the tragic tale of Agamemnon’s return from the Trojan Wars.
